Where The Corners Meet Quilt Guild

April 2006

April Program
In April we welcome Rhonda Cavaliere to the guild meeting. Rhonda will be speaking about Feedsacks and Feedsack quilts.  Along with her information, she will also have feedsack fabric for sale.
Be sure to bring your friends and some cash to this presentation.

Welcome New Members
We are happy to welcome more new members to our guild since February.  In addition to Patti Burkhart, Stella Bell, Kirsten Swanson and Amy Howells we welcome
Jane Armstrong and Norma Garrett.
A directory addendum page with these new member’s information will be available at the April meeting.

Last month
Thanks to Alice Clapper for providing so much information about preparing our quilt tops for long arm machine quilting.

Just when you think you’ve learned a lot about something, along comes more information.  Thanks, Alice.

Good bye Alex
Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine’s May 2006 issue announced that HGTV is cancelling Simply Quilts with Alex Anderson.  They have addresses for us to write to express our opinion about their decision.  They are: HGTV Viewer Services Dept. 865-694-7879; webmaster @hgtv.com; on line at www.hgtv.com/hgtv/about_us/text/O,1783, HGTV_3080_4964,00.html or contact the parent company E.W. Scripps at 513-977-3000; corpcomm@scripps.com
No matter how you feel about Alex’s show, HGTV should be aware of the millions of viewers who are quilters.  They should be addressing that populations with some kind of show.

2006 Quilt Challenge
Make a greeting card quilt the size of a fat quarter, 18 x 22.
You may use any theme that would be an appropriate greeting, such as a birthday or holiday.
The quilt is to be completed and should have a sleeve so that you can use it as a wall hanging.
The challenge is due at the August picnic and a People's Choice Award will be given.
Personal Challenge
Don’t forget to sign up to have a some part of a UFO completed by the November meeting.

Future Plans …

May 9  Shopowners Night
Please note the change of month for this program. Be sure to tell your friends about this and bring as many as possible.  We want to make it worth all the trouble the shop owners go to when they bring their things for us to see and buy.

Focus On ...

We welcome six new members to the guild.  Stop and talk to them at the next meeting.  Our first new member is:

Kirsten Swanson
Kirsten started quilting in 1993 learning at a quilting retreat at church camp on Lake Chautauqua, New York.  The retreats provided informal classes. Friends in the Jamestown, NY area have influenced her quilting.   She likes both pieced and applique quilts and prefers smaller sizes of projects.
Kirsten says that you’ll find mostly country and Americana in her stash, but she also claims that you could find almost anything in there.
She is a busy lady having made at least 10 queen/king sized quilts, 20 crib quilts and over 100 wall hangings/table runners.
A retired nurse, Kirsten quilts at least weekly but definitely when under the gun for a birth, wedding or other gift.  Her tip to other quilters is “have fun with it”.
