Brenda Leone
Brenda taught herself to quilt 18 years ago.  She’s taken one class on applique and she loves all kinds of patterns and crazy quilts.  Her artistic side has been the greatest influence in quilting.
Besides one or two kitty hairs, we would find almost anything in her fabric stash.  Brenda is an R N and a Lamaze instructor and quilts in her free time.  She’s never kept count of the quilts she has made but recommends that you not start a new project without finishing the one you’re presently working on.

Tracy Mason
Tracy started quilting in June 2002, using it as therapy following the death of her daughter.  She began making childrens quilts to give as donations to Childrens Hospital.  She is a “scrappy quilt person” and her favorite types of patterns are stars with her second favorite being brights for children’s quilts.
Tracy has been influenced by her mother, Harriet.  She reports: “My mother is a perfectionist and I am an anal personality; so, of course I had to match or be better [than her].  My stash also had to be bigger.  Mother has taken about 10 years to grow her stash and in 1 1/2 years I have surpassed her.”
We’d find country colors and brights in her stash.
She has made 10+ baby quilts, 1 lap quilt, 2 or 3 wall quilts and has at least 8 projects in process.
Tracy is an office manager for a podiatrist in New Castle and quilts every spare moment she has in evenings and weekends...even 3 in the morning at times.
Her tip:  be precise—take the time to make your cutting perfect and pin—pin—pin!  Slow down  - the fun is creating a masterpiece then being able to look at it with pride when all your seams match and the points are perfect.

Where The Corners Meet Quilt Guild

February 2004

February Meeting:  We will be making portable ironing boards. Last month members got the cardboard that is in the center of bolts of fabric.  Before the next meeting we are to cover the board with cotton batting (see instructions) and whipstitch closed.
Next, from muslin, cut  two pieces 6 1/2” X 22”.
From silver metallic fabric, cut one piece 6 1/2” X 22” (may use muslin).
From print fabric cut four strips
2” X 22” for the narrow side panels,
two 2” X 9 1/2” for the end panel, two
7 1/2” X 9 1/2” for the top, and two more from the same print or a mix and match print for the lining of the top.
Bring your machine and supplies and cut fabrics to make the cover at our meeting.

This year’s challenge blocks:
May’s challenge is to create a quilt using the pastel squares we got at the October meeting.  Use 31of the squares and you may add one background and 2 additional accent fabrics.
October’s challenge is our personal UFO challenge.  At the last meeting we signed a sheet on which we vowed to complete a project.  If we don’t, we pay the guild $5!

August’s  challenge is a Face Block.  At our picnic we will turn in our face block.  Pick up a yellow sheet with explanations and a white sheet with a face outline at the sign in table.  The blocks will be 11” X 19” with 1/4” around for sewing together.  The pose should include from shoulder up—not full length of person.  Sounds like a real challenge.

January Meeting:  We enjoyed our Silent Auction and Fat Quarter Bingo games.  Thanks to everyone who won the bids, we raised about $100 for future guild programs and expenses.  We all went home with at least one interesting fat quarter.
Sewing Day :  Our first sewing day on Saturday, Jan. 17th was lots of fun.  The project, a Flip and Stitch Quilt taught by Harriet Mason and Regina Harakal (with lots of help from Tracy) was easy and very versatile.  Once we caught on to the “secret” of getting started, the rest was easy.
Machelle Scott got our lunch at Pizza Joes and members brought goodies to munch throughout the day.  Thanks to everyone involved for a delightful day.
