January 2003 Program Tuesday, January 14th, 7:30 p.m.
When you come to the January meeting be prepared to play "Ugly Fat Quarters Bingo." To play you begin by "purchasing" bingo cards with fat quarters. You may bring a minimum of 2 fat quarters or a maximum of 6.
Winning players will be awarded prizes that are the fat quarters. It will be interesting to see what we can create out of the fabrics we win.
This sounds like fun, so, bring some fat quarters that you are ready to part with and join in the fun.
Also at the January meeting:
* bring your dues of $12
* bring your self-addressed, stamped envelopes

Mary Ann Snyder
The guild's new president is Mary Ann Snyder, a recently retired elementary teacher who lives in Grove City, PA. While Mary Ann learned to sew when she was very young, she only started quilting in 1999. Impressed with Lynda Bortz' quilts, Mary Ann decided that she would like to try to make some as well. She realized that making quilts was a tangible legacy she could create for her two daughters and their families.
Lynda became her teacher and showed Mary Ann how to put a block of the month Santa quilt together. If you've seen Mary Ann's work you'll know that Lynda was a good teacher and that Mary Ann has a great deal of talent.
When does this lady sleep? Besides volunteering at the Grove City Library and working part-time at Tommy Hilfiger, she has (in only 4 years) made 11 bed-sized quilts and about 15 wall hangings!
Mary Ann has some great ideas for keeping track of her projects. First, she keeps a photo album of all her finished projects. She also details the kind of fabric it was, the approximate cost and who it was given to or which daughter is to receive it. The nicest thing she does is on the label on the back of the piece. She not only signs her name and date but also writes what is happening at the time the quilt was made. Since most of the quilts are for her two daughters, her label reflects a progression of their lives. For instance, her oldest daughter, Kelly who now lives in Colorado just received a snowman quilt that starts "Christmas in Pennsylvania" Birthday quilts have "Happy Birthday" and a personal message. One quilt noted the completion of Lindsay's first year at Penn State. What a unique and memorable way to personalize the quilts!
Mary Ann still considers herself a new quilter and is eager to learn new things. For her, sewing eases stress; however, her Oregon Trail quilt, seen at Show and Tell last Fall, has been the most challenging and "taxing to the brain" of anything she has done. She says that just interpreting the directions was tough, but she's proud of herself because she hung in there and finished the topeven after ripping out about 80 six inch triangles.
New or not, Mary Ann could be in the "Hall of Fame" of quilters.

December 2002 Holiday Dinner
The holiday dinner for the guild was held on December 10, 2002 at the Village Inn restaurant in Harlansburg, PA. The food was a delicious choice of chicken ,pork or beef. In addition, mashed potatoes, peas and onions, stewed apples and rolls were offered family style. We finished the meal with a yummy carrot cake.
The table decorations were cute felt snow men made by Sandy Lord. Thank you Sandy, for all your work.
The much anticipated gift exchange took place after dinner. To call it a gift exchange is a little misleading; each person does select a gift, but the gift can be taken away from you before you can say "Jack Robinson". By the opening of the final package it is possible for a person to have possessed (for a few moments) 3 or 4 different or the same gifts. Martina, Mary Ann, Valorie and Jan were only a few people who lost their gifts one or more times.
Thanks to the planning committee for their outstanding work in planning interesting and fun programs this past year.
