June 2003 Program Tuesday, June 10th, 7:30 p.m.
New Location: New Wilmington Presbyterian Church
(same location as the shop owners' night program)

Pat Knoechel
It's June and that means that Pat Knoechel will be visiting our guild and bringing her latest trunk show.  Her program is always good and filled with plenty of new ideas.  She comes to us each year free of charge; so, we hope you will be able to show your thanks and support by making a purchase after her program.
Bring your friends and spread the word.  We will have plenty of space because Mary Ann was able to reserve the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church (where we hold Shop owners' night) instead of our regular meeting place.  See you there!

Rose Graff
Rose has been a quilter for 50 years.  Her mother, Nellie Hale, and later a special friend, Freda Stover, both taught her to quilt and influenced her quilting.  As a self-described "gofer" for her husband's company, Rose quilts in the early morning or late evening.  Her favorite class was Bears in the Woods but she likes all kinds of patterns or types of quilts.  Her stash sounds like something we'd like to see  -  she has all colors and all patterns in it.
Rose doesn't know how many quilts she has made.  Her tips for others it to learn new ideas and try new products.  Sounds like good advice from someone who practices what she preaches.

Regina Harakal
Regina started quilting when she was just seven years old.  Her grandmother taught her to machine piece.  She has taken two different paper piecing classes and two applique classes and enjoyed them all; however, her favorite was the Jacobean applique class.  She likes more complicated traditional quilts, Jinny Beyer patterns and the Jacobean applique.
She was influenced by both her grandmothers, mother and several aunts.  Regina's  stash has a wide variety of fat quarters suitable for scrap quilts or applique.  She has made only eight quilts but has quilted over 100 for other people.  She quilts whenever she has time to sit for an hour.  We know that Regina make other things besides quilts as well  -  dolls, etc.  Regina's tip for others...pick patterns and fabric you like and enjoy working with or chances are that the project will end up being a UFO.

Diana Russell
Diana started quilting in June 2001.  She took a beginning quilting class.  Since then she has enjoyed two machine quilting classes.   Paper piecing, stars and double wedding ring are her favorite patterns or types of quilts.  She has made 5 quilts.
Diana was influenced by her mother and grandmother.  Her stash includes batiks, bright colors and lots of purples.   Now retired, Diana quilts whenever she has a free moment or when she needs to relax.
Her tip for others don't be afraid to experiment and if you haven't done it before...try it.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Quilters seem to be adventurous people who aren't afraid to try new things.  Almost everyone who has answered the questionnaire encourages us to do that.  So, if you haven't already, try a new technique or quilting gadget soon.

What do you think?  Pieceful Pursuits Quilt Guild (Clark) has invited our guild to join them in producing a cookbook.  We would need to be able to provide recipes AND be prepared to sell half of the books (books will cost about $10 each).  Because of the nature of the June program we will take a vote when you check in to see (1) if you feel we should get involved with the cookbook and (2) how many books you would be willing to sell on the check in sheet.  We will have the results of the vote at the July meeting.

Quilt Tips: We had very few quilt tips turned in at the last meeting.  While Mary Ann promised not to ask again, she doesn't have enough for the October program so, PLEASE...give her some quilt tips!  Get creative make them up (or get them off the internet).  There will be a box for them at the check in table.

Service Project: We will be making quilts for Children's Hospital this summer.  We have scheduled our first work day on Wednesday, July 9 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Mercer from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Bring a brown bag lunch and a snack to share.  The guild will provide drinks.  Quilts need to be at least 36" x36" or crib size, so check your fabrics and simple patterns.  We will have a sign up sheet at the June meeting. More information will be in the July newsletter or call Jean Wanchick.

Wanted or For Sale
Do you have something you're looking for?  Do you have something you'd like to sell?  Post it here.  Give Jean a short description and your name and phone number.  It doesn't have to be quilt related.

Challenge Block: The theme for the challenge block is "Hometown U.S.A."  There are three pieces of fabric (available in a kit for $2) that must be used in the block Blue fabric is the background, Green is the grass and Yellow.  This fabric has been washed.
Your block should have only one building in it, e.g. a house, church, school, barn, etc.  You may use other fabrics to construct the building in your block but please make sure they are washed and 100% cotton-quilt- shop-quality.  The finished block should measure 12 1/2".  You may purchase the kits at the guild meeting.  Blocks will be due in August.
